Artist-Led Workshop: “Chance and Control” [Workshop] June 5, 6-8 PM | MoCA Arlington Innovation Studio | FREE
Hedieh Javanshit Ilchi guides participants through layering paint drips and stains to create hybrid abstractions. Drawing from Persian art and Western abstraction traditions, the workshop explores the tension between equilibrium and chaos. Participants will have the chance to experiment with mixed-media techniques and incorporate their own visual styles into the work. More Info
Opening Reception: A Dark Spot [Gallery Opening] June 5, 5-9 PM | Foyer Gallery (Richmond, VA) | FREE
Mike McQuade transforms found imagery and printed ephemera through layers and juxtaposition. His surfaces are repeatedly struck and then built up, creating energy that pulls viewers in. Drawing on Dada techniques, McQuade’s work rejects editorial logic where images solve problems. On view through August 21st. More Info
Picnic Day at The Kreeger Museum [Community Event] June 6, 10 AM-4 PM | The Kreeger Museum | FREE
Kick off summer with one of the greatest combos of all time: the outdoors and art. Bring picnic snacks and drinks to the Kreeger’s Sculpture Garden and enjoy free entry to the museum. Blankets and benches are available, and light refreshments will be available for purchase. Tours of the garden will take place throughout the day. Note: no lawn chairs or glass beverages allowed. DC Print Fair [Art Fair] June 6-7 | Eastern Market’s North Hall | FREE
Connect with local artists and studios that will showcase work across woodblock, linocut, letterpress, screen print, and RISO printing. This is an opportunity to gain a dynamic view into contemporary printmaking in the DMV, and to learn more about different printmaking processes. More Info

The annual Museum Walk Weekend is finally back, which means that five local cultural institutions are opening their doors for free: Anderson House, Dupont Underground, National Museum of American Jewish Military History, The Phillips Collection, and The President Woodrow Wilson House. Emily Fussner: Ephemeral Echoes [Installation Opening] June 7, 4-6 PM | Freight Gallery | FREE
Emily Fussner creates paper casts of parking lot cracks, investigating fracture and repair through video and sculpture installation. Her work documents shifting shadows and sunlight, sometimes filling cracks with fallen petals or paper pulp to suspend moments of vulnerability in physical form. Born with the brittle bone condition Osteogenesis Imperfecta, Fussner brings a deeply personal understanding of fragility and resilience to her process. More Info
