50 for 50 Visual Artist Spotlight Reception: Nasim Kaheh [Exhibition] March 1-7 | Touchstone Gallery | FREE
Iranian-American visual artist Nasim Kaheh uses collage and mixed media to examine human connection and the subtle dynamics between people. Using faceless figures and layered silhouettes, she avoids singular narratives, making space for viewers to project their own interpretations onto the works. Informed by her experiences across multiple cultures and observations of interpersonal complexity, her work is both quiet and contemplative. Info
Gallery Talk: European Paintings by Women Artists [Gallery Talk] March 7, 2-3 PM | National Gallery of Art | FREE
Three curators come together to discuss 18th and 19th-century European paintings by women artists. Mary Morton tells the story of Anne Vallayer-Coster's Still Life with Flowers in an Alabaster Vase and Fruit, which the artist considered her best work and refused to sell. It disappeared after her death in 1818 and only resurfaced in 2022. Michelle Bird and Kimberly A. Jones discuss works by Karin Bergöö Larsson and Berthe Morisot. Note: Arrive early because NGA oversubscribes and turns people away once full. Register
